Review: Jus-Rol Cinnamon Swirls
How many times have you stared at these Jus-Rol packets on supermarket shelves and considered giving them a go? I curiously looked at these on a number of occasions, until a few days ago. Reduced to only £1.50, I couldn't resist picking up a box of cinnamon swirls as I shooed away thoughts of 'What would Mary Berry say!' and 'Why don't you make them from scratch?'.
And now, I'm glad that I did. Preparation, cooking and decorating took a grand total of twenty minutes. All that was involved was cutting the preformed roll of dough into six slices. After placing them on a greaseproof paper lined tray, they're baked for about ten minutes and iced. No fuss and minimal mess to clean up.
I wasn't sure how these would compare in taste and texture to homemade or even bakery bought pastries, but I was pleasantly surprised. The icing is provided in powder form, allowing you to add water to reach the consistency of your choosing. I'm not terribly keen on cinnamon, but I found that these had the perfect amount.
I would definitely buy these again, and perhaps next time I'll try one of the many pull-apart recipes I've seen on Pinterest. You can add stewed apples and all sorts of things to make them that little bit more delicious. So, if you're looking for a quick fix for breakfast or an effortless afternoon tea, give these a try.
